Jozef Bury

Jozef Bury is a Polish artist, living and working in France. He is a versatile artist, working across many disciplines (painting, photography, performance, new media), art theoretician, author of publications and translations in the field of history and theory of contemporary art. He was born in Mielec, Poland, in 1961. In 1986 he moved to Paris. Between 1984 and 1996 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and at the College of Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris, where he obtained a diploma in history and theory of art. He completed his Ph.D. thesis in the field of art, science, and technology of art, in the EDESTA laboratory at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes Saint-Denis.

Since 1984, he is involved in the activities of numerous organizations and associations (art, culture, science, philosophy), he is also the organizer and curator of many exhibitions and artistic manifestations. Since 1994, he teaches history, theory, and practice of art: from 1994 to 1996 at the Danae Foundation, at the Center for Transdisciplinary Studies and Studies, and from 2004 to 2007 at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. Since 2003, he teaches the philosophy of art at the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts de Brest.

He presented his works at several individual exhibitions and over 100 collective exhibitions, among others in Poland, France, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, South Korea, and Japan. His works can be found in numerous private and institutional collections in Poland and abroad.
